MPEG is a Video format that is developed by the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG)

The compressions were:

• MPEG-1 used with video compact discs (VCDs)
• MPEG-2 compression (higher-quality used for DVDs)

If you'd like to back up videos on CD/DVD, you probably needed MPEG format.
