About

host is a simple command line utility for performing DNS lookups.

It is normally used to convert names to IP addresses and vice versa.

nslookup is not performing a lookup on the content of the host file as ping does.

Simplified syntax

host name

where name is a domain name

Example

host ccr.oracle.com

ccr.oracle.com is an alias for lb-ccr.oracle.com.
lb-ccr.oracle.com has address 141.146.54.49
