A chip is a set of electronic circuits on one small flat piece (the ''chip“) of semiconductor material, normally silicon.
A chip is also known as:
- Integrated circuit
- microchip
- monolithic integrated circuit
Each chip is responsible for a function, e.g.:
- graphic controllers,
- network controller,
- power controller,
- etc.

The 74HC00 is a chip device composed:
- internally of four 2-input NAND gates
- and externally of 14 pins:
- 8 input pins (red)
- 4 output pins (green)
- 1 pin for connecting to a voltage source (Vcc brown)
- 1 pin for connecting to the ground. (GND brown)
The chip comes with 4 gates that can be combined to create other logic gates (ie logic function)
