Method
The publisher has the following ways to sold an ad by order of importance:
- Advertising - Header Bidding (Advance or Pre-bidding): Auction bidding
- Advertising - Direct Sales (Order, Campaign): The sale happens directly between an advertiser and a publisher without intermediary.
- Ad - Ad Exchange: Auction bidding: an ad exchange is a place where ad networks bids on behalf of its customers. The ad exchange runs an auction among the bids and returns the winner to the publisher which becomes the ad impression for the user.
- Ad - Waterfalling (daisy chain or waterfall tags): a publisher makes sequential price offers to ad networks for an inventory, and chooses the winner in that order.
- Ad - AdSense (fallback)
Finally, if no sale could be found, a publisher will fallback to its house ads
